Michael Jackson Biopic Pushed to Late 2025
Lionsgate has moved the release date of Michael, the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua, to October 3, 2025. Originally set for April, the shift allows the team more time to fine-tune this ambitious project.
Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, will step into the iconic role, aiming to capture the essence of his legendary uncle. “With Jaafar, every look, every note, every dance move is Michael,” said producer Graham King. “He embodies Michael in a way that no other actor could.”
The cast also includes Nia Long, Colman Domingo, Laura Harrier, and Miles Teller.
King pointed out that the film goes beyond Jackson’s career highlights. “Behind the unrelenting scrutiny and the accusations and the spotlight, he was simply a man — a man with a very complicated life.”
Director Antoine Fuqua shared why this project matters to him. “Michael’s music and those images are part of my worldview,” he said. “And the chance to tell his story on the screen alongside his music was irresistible.”
Jackson’s influence is unmatched — widely known as the “King of Pop,” he revolutionized the music industry with his groundbreaking performances, unmatched vocal talent, and iconic dance moves. He achieved 13 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned worldwide fame with Thriller, which stayed at No. 1 for 37 weeks and became the best-selling album of all time. Even after his death in 2009, he continued breaking records when three of his albums topped Billboard’s charts simultaneously, reaffirming his enduring legacy.
The film will feature over 30 of Michael Jackson’s songs, aiming to capture his life in full. Set to deliver a powerful story of artistry and complexity, Michael will bring a deeper look at the man behind the music when it arrives in late 2025.
